I am part of Generation Y, aptly named millennials. Compared with previous generations, millennials are known to take on responsibilities at a later stage in life. This might be partly imposed to, as for example, employers being more demanding and the residential market is a tough cookie for starters. On the other hand, millennials are less and less adhering to traditions compared with the previous Gen X. So they tend to study longer, buy a house or get married later and have children at an older age. Yet, there is one thing they do want to take responsibility for: plants. Plants require just the right amount of attention to give Gen Y a certain sense of responsibility.

When starting this project, I was mostly looking at myself. I give shelter to quite some plants but I always succeed in killing my darlings. After a while, I noticed I wasn’t the only one in my close surroundings, as it wasn’t hard to collect the models for this project at all. So I collected them and started to portray our sense of (ir)responsibility.

A generation that loves plants but leaves them to die.
